Well, Where Does the Time Go?!
Take a look at our Calendar and Jam List pages. They are updated! No really, I finally did it. We are still at the Oakwood Farmer's Market and Shiloh Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings. 9-1 at the Oakwood Market and 8-1 at Shiloh. Come and check out Ann's famous Tomato Lemon jam.
Be sure to make a trip to Winterburg in Miamisburg this coming February 11th from 5-9. You will find lots of local vendors and (of course) us! Stock up on some jam for those cold winter days. Savorie Hand Crafted Delights will be there with quite a selection of wonderful yummies from local vendors. And as always, if you can't come south, Ghostlight Coffee on Wayne Avenue has a great selection of our jams!
We now have a Jam List page on our site!
Check out our Jam List page to get an overview of all the wonderful jam flavors we have available. If you are interested in placing an order for the Holidays use the contact form to reach us with your request. We also have individual cloth wraps available. They would make a great teacher gift!
The girls go in a new direction
After a wonderful first season at the Shiloh Farmers' Market we are headed in a new direction. With no storefront of our own, we are participating in some Christmas bazaars and craft shows. Our first was this past Saturday at the Bellbrook Lioness Club's Christmas Handmade Arts and Crafts Show. We had a great time and debuted our new cranberry flavors including Cranberry Horseradish and Cranberry Orange Ginger.
This week you can find us in Miamisburg on Thursday at Winterburg, a brand new winter market located at the Star City Brewing Company. Saturday and Sunday we will be at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Huber Heights for their Christmas Bazaar. It's a great time to buy jam!
Lunch at Hawthorn Homestead
What a wonderful discovery and taste treat too! I was feeling a bit hungry and decided on a grilled cheese sandwich. As I reached for the cheese (smoked Gouda), my jar of Hawthorn Homestead Hot Pepper Jam was staring me right in the eye. I put it on my sandwich, grilled away, and created a really delicious sandwich with just the right amount of kick.
Recipe Ideas for Hawthorn Homestead Jams
Harvest time at Hawthorn Homestead! Well, not quite harvest, but we did have some great kale, parsley, and cucumbers. So on a tip from fellow Shiloh Farmers' Market vendor Emily from Oh My Darlin' Up-Cycled Baby Goods, we created an Asian inspired slaw and used our Lime Marmalade to create the dressing.
We made the salad by chopping the red cabbage, scallions carrots, cucumbers, red pepper, kale, and parsley into bite size pieces. The slivered almonds were toasted on the stove top in a dry skillet. Don't walk away from this!
Lime Marmalade Peanut Dressing
3 T Hawthorn Homestead Lime Marmalade
3 T creamy peanut butter
3 T rice wine vinegar
2 T soy sauce
1 large clove garlic, chopped
Fresh grated ginger to taste
3/4 t salt
1/2 t Asian sesame oil
Sriracha to taste
Whisk all ingredients together and pour on salad.
Hot Pepper Jelly Makes a Debut
One of our original jelly inspirations was Hot Pepper Jelly and this past week we presented our version at the Shiloh Farmer's Market. Making it was fun but because both Ann and I are not "hot" connoisseurs we really relied on the advice of our great customers to know if we were on the right track. We got tons of thumbs up I am glad to say!
Hawthorn Homestead is now a reality! Beginning May 9, 2015 we have officially set up shop at the Shiloh Farmers' Market at Shiloh Church on North Main Street in Dayton where Ann's wonderful jams are available for purchase. Come visit us on Saturday mornings from 8-1 and sample all of her delicious creations.
Although we fight about which is the best, our current favorite is Lime Marmalade. The tart citrus flavor is phenomenal and packs a punch! We think it would be great on a huge piece of cheesecake.
